Our Peru packages are built around altitude rather than distance: two days acclimatising in Cusco at 3,400 m, then the Sacred Valley at 2,800 m, then Machu Picchu at 2,430 m. Five days is the comfortable version and the one we sell most.
Almost every Peru trip is really a Cusco trip with Lima at one end. What separates a good one from a hard one is the order: going down before going up, and leaving a spare day for the weather or a train that moves.
Machu Picchu entry is tied to a named circuit and a timed slot, and both sell out weeks ahead in high season. That is booked with the package rather than on arrival.
April to October is the dry season and the reliable window. The Inca Trail closes every February.
