Iguazu Falls

In short

Iguazu Falls is a 2.7 km wall of 275 waterfalls on the Argentina–Brazil border. The Argentine side has hours of close-up walkways and the train to Devil's Throat; the Brazilian side has the panorama. Three days covers both without rushing.

The falls sit inside two national parks that face each other across the Iguazu river. Roughly 80% of the waterfalls are on the Argentine side, which is why it takes a full day to walk: an upper circuit along the top of the drops, a lower circuit that puts you underneath them, and a park train out to the walkway over Devil's Throat.

Brazil gets the postcard. One panoramic trail, about two hours, ending on a catwalk that runs into the spray. It is the shorter visit and the better photograph, which is why doing only one side always means choosing what you want to lose.

Both parks are 20 to 30 minutes from their respective towns, and crossing the border for the day is routine. The visa is not: since 10 April 2025 US, Canadian and Australian passports need a Brazilian e-visa, applied for online before you travel. UK, EU and most Latin American passports do not. Sort it before you book the Brazilian day, not at the bridge.
